World Summit on Children's Rights at the Vatican
World leaders gathered at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican for the summit on children's rights. Before the opening, Pope Francis received a group of children, among them Roman, a Ukrainian boy with severe burns from a rocket attack. The image of the Pope embracing Roman became a powerful symbol of the summit’s significance.
The summit brought together Nobel laureates, academics, religious figures, and political leaders to discuss the protection of children from poverty, war, exploitation, and lack of education. The Pope warned that injustice against the weakest must not become "the new normal" and emphasized that abortion, which "suppresses children's lives and cuts off the source of hope for an entire society," is also a serious threat to children's rights.
