Pope Leo XIV recently took formal possession of the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, officially marking his role as Bishop of Rome. In this significant ceremony, the Pope emphasized unity and solidarity, saying, “Thank you for walking together! Let us all walk together!”

Following tradition dating back to Pope Boniface VIII in 1295, Pope Leo visited Rome's four major papal basilicas: St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s in the Vatican, St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major. Each basilica holds deep symbolic and historical significance, from St. Peter's, where Pope Leo received the papal pallium and fisherman’s ring symbolizing his role as Successor of Peter, to St. Paul’s, home to the Apostle Paul’s remains, emphasizing the evangelizing mission of the Church.

His visit to St. Mary Major underscored his Marian devotion, venerating the iconic image of "Salus Populi Romani." Pope Leo prayed for God's blessing through Mary's intercession, reaffirming the unity and faith of the Church.

Join EWTN Norge in exploring these profound moments, reflecting on the rich symbolism and spiritual significance at the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate, particularly meaningful in the Jubilee Year.
